A trainer in a small gym at East Delhi says he happily blows up Rs 1,000 to colour his hair every third month to keep pace with many of his clients.
So, it’s no surprise that a young housemaid in Delhi, earning Rs 5,000 a month, just spent one-tenth of her salary to streak her hair after seeing three in the household she works for colour their hair regularly. She says she may do it again.
While the L’Oreal brands are priced between Rs 79 and Rs 489 per packet, Godrej’s Renew, Colour Soft and Godrej Expert are priced between Rs 11 and Rs 99.
Yet, the French multinational holds a 28% market share in value terms against Godrej’s 26% in the cream-based hair colour market.
