A Glass Half Full: The Promise of Regional Trade in South Asia
Trade has played a critical role in reducing global poverty. Trade regimes and regulations in South Asia often discriminate against each other, offsetting the potential positive impacts of geography and proximity. The World Bank report A Glass Half Full: The Promise of Regional Trade in South Asia (2018) documents the gaps between current and potential trade in South Asia and unpacks critical barriers to trade in the region - including tariff and non-tariff barriers, connectivity costs, and trust deficits - through four studies. The report also offers actionable policy recommendations for deeper regional trade integration. Dr. Sanjay Kathuria, the editor of A Glass Half Full, will discuss the report’s findings and his work at the World Bank. This event is co-sponsored by Georgetown University’s India Initiative, Asian Studies Program, Global Human Development Program, and South Asia Policy & Research Initiative (SAPRI).
