India to engage on human rights, democracy with Blinken

India will convey to the US secretary of state Antony Blinken this week that issues such as human rights and democracy are universal and extend beyond a particular national or cultural perspective.
“India is proud of its achievements in both domains and is always glad to share experiences. As a long-standing pluralistic society, India is open to engaging with those who now recognise the value of diversity,” a highly placed person said a day after a senior US official remarked that Blinken will raise issues of democracy and human rights during his July 27-28 visit to India.
