India’s foodgrain output expected to rise

- According to the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare, the output of foodgrain production in India is estimated to increase to 305.43 million tonnes in the crop year 2020-21. The growth would be of 2.66% in comparison to the previous year. Better output of rice, pulses and wheat backed by good monsoon rains last year would support the growth.
- During 2019-20 crop year (July-June), the food grain output was 297.5 million tonnes, where the output comprised of wheat, rice, pulses and coarse cereals. Efforts put by farmers and scientists along with the policies of the central government have led to the rise in output, commented Narendra Singh Tomar, Minister of Agriculture.
