Indian Government sold vehicle registration data & driving licenses

Govt. of India sold 250 million vehicle registration records and 150 million driver licenses to 142 private companies and public institutions. Buyers include big names, such as Mercedes, Toyota, Volkswagen, Nissan, BMW, State Bank of India (SBI), ICICI Bank and Citibank. Who can buy Data: Any company, whose 50% shares are owned by Indian citizens, is eligible to purchase the data from the government for INR 30 million (USD 422K approx) in the fiscal year 2019-2020. Imp. Note: It is unclear if the government has taken consent from citizens before selling the driver and vehicle data. Read more
